The Marion County Historic Sites & Structures Survey will develop an updated inventory of historic structures and districts within six townships in Marion County, as part of the Indiana Historic Sites and Structures Inventory (IHSSI). The IHSSI serves as a critical resource in evaluating the eligibility of sites and districts for inclusion in the National Register of Historic Places throughout Indiana.

The existing IHSSI surveys for these townships were completed in the 1980s and 1990s and, as a result, most resources constructed after 1945 were not surveyed.

In addition, the existing surveys generally do not include resources associated with understudied populations. This updated survey will create a more comprehensive and up to date inventory for evaluating resources in Marion County.

What is IHSSI? The Indiana Historic Sites and Structures Inventory (IHSSI) is a program of the Indiana Department of Natural Resources, Division of Historic Preservation and Archaeology (DHPA) that is responsible for administering and maintaining of data collected from all above ground resources.
